John Curtis on Drumecanical

Interview with John curtiis

You are a busy man in the music business. What do you think about the mass of music it's being released?
It's interesting to see that labels as artists are so engaged in deliver huge variety of music directions, this makes the music so interesting. Due the affordable access in music Production systems, we have discovered a lot of very interesting artists, we might have never knew. I personally think that it's not bad to have huge mass of music available due this way each music lover as well DJ, Radio Stations, TV and which ever further media use the products, have the possibility to choose exactly what he's looking for his project even tastes.

Should it be monitored in some way?
I guess that Monitoring will not help to stop the influences of the huge amount of music and new Artists interesting in Producing and presents their work to the world, I mean this is their right to present themselves to the masses well a way to express themselves. Dr. Motte, a good friend of mine, has recently posted into his Blogs, "security means less freedom", and obviously music means freedom, so I'm against monitoring this influence, mostly interested in monitoring products that could bad influence the youth clubbing and music lover generation.

How do you feel about piracy and sharing music?
Well I feel amazed at first, due the stuff we're releasing means that it's appreciated and researched, to the demand is there, but after I see and realize there are a lot of people that are not supporting their favorite Artists, Labels and music Genre, making bugs with stolen copies, which is not really funny for these Artists who work until the early morning hours, and start up to work and afford in office the remix, promo, production requests coming in.

Do you have any ideas to stop piracy?
I guess we all have ideas to stop piracy and improve to buy music but I guess this is a moral thing, we should not setup limits or barriers on piracy, the music pirate, should think and realize by themselves that behind each tune they download illegally, a part of music is dying and damaging the Artist behind that act.

Since dance music is the dominant music right now in pop charts and what not, would you like for more underground projects to get more recognize?
This is not a news for me, I said around 5 years ago that the underground electronic music will be get more popularity than commercial Pop they used to presented for so many years now. People are now mainly addicted to electronic sound cause the way to perform and present music has changed to a more electronically way most artists use.
As producer there where some productions of mine that went god, other less. I'm mainly doing music because I love it, I'm engaged in Production, in DJing for years now and performing in different events even festivals. The recognize I could ever wish for, I already got it in a modest small way. When I move to events, and people dance right in front of the stage where everybody is waiting for artist's performance. I got my recognize, I don't need more than people appreciate what I'm doing and having fun for.

Do you think this movement with pop music right now helps the scene or affects it in some way?
Guess we can't look away from pop music even its changes. Pop uses underground and electronic genres cause it's a trend they want to create, use or mute into something different to perform and implement into the market as a kind of experiments they do. It's mainly know that Pop music is slowly loosing notoriety as well the new generation is looking for club oriented grooves. So in short i guess it just helps but will not really affect the scene. It's more promotion and validation for the underground music scene, which brings closer the public to our world.

Are you Analogue, Digital or mix of both type of man?
Without any doubt a mix of both.

What can we expect from QT RECORDS in the next couple of months?
There are actually so many ideas ready to be processed. Huge projects in front for the next month, hopefully we'll be able to finish the work soonest. The releases will be get more into the underground, presenting interest tunes as a good way to promote the stuff with all partners we use to work with. Marcus Wolfschmidt, our official visual artist has done very nice works for QT RECORDS in a very professional way which his engagement and works are very appreciated by as well form the public. By the way, we have lot of stuff we can't wait to have released.
Our plans for the near future are to introduce some competitions and promotional tools for the fans we successfully have promoted until now. We still keep in update and improve new technologies to simplify things for the followers. I just suggest to keep up to date on following our podcast, website, and all activities we use to stay in touch with.

Last question what production tip would you give to aspiring producers?
This sounds as a cliché, but first of all, love your life, don't use drugs, you don't need anything of that to make music as just express yourself freely. The other important thing is, you have to love music and the work you have to do for that more than anything else, prepare yourself to a hard working job, cause it is. Patience, Patience, Patience is the last thing i would give on the road for new producers, forward to the labels your tunes and don't be demoralized if no one has get in touch with you. As tip, listen a lot of music, make experiments with your platform, analyze everything you hear in radios or music you buy, try to get out the compositions as well the thinnest instruments in each Tune you listen to. But most important is to simply love music.
